Our Approach Towards Remote I-9 Verification

When it comes to the I-9 verification process, we offer multiple ways to complete through the Onboard platform.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we provide solutions for companies that want to complete paperwork completely virtual. Paperwork can also be completed in person (but through our web-based platform), with new staff physically with you. Here are several ways to make that possible for your company.

Option 1: In-Person Verification (Still 100% Digital)

If you’re onboarding someone onsite, you can still go paperless while completing Section 2 of the I-9.

How it works:

  • The employee fills out the I-9 on any device while physically present at your workplace.

  • When it’s time for identity verification, they’ll select “Submit in Person.”

  • As the employer, you review their original documents in person—then you can either:

    • Upload a scanned copy of the reviewed documents

    • Or take a photo and upload it directly into the platform

All of this happens within Onboard, with no paper filing needed.

Option 2: Virtual Verification

For remote teams or virtual onboarding workflows, we’ve got you covered.

How it works:

  • The employee fills out their I-9 through the platform remotely.

  • You review supporting documents virtually—through video call or other compliant methods.

  • Upload scanned images or photos of the documents directly into Onboard to complete the verification.

This gives you a secure, trackable way to stay compliant—without requiring an in-person meeting.
